The earliest documented Leinen/Leynen ancestors lived in and around Dreisbach, Saarland. Dreisbach is a village that sits on the bank of the Saar river. Nearby villages include Mettlach, Besseringen, and Schwemlingen.

The land in the middle is known as the mound of Montclair. Celtic stronghold traces date back to between 300AD and 500AD. Three subsequent castles followed including Skiva (9th century), Old Montclair Castle (12th century), and New Montclair Castle (15th century). The runes of Burg Montclair (New) can be visited today.
